How To Install A Transition Strip With Double Sided Carpet Tape

  1. Measure and cut the transition strip: Measure the length of the transition area where you need to install the transition strip and cut the transition strip to the appropriate length using a saw or a utility knife. Make sure the cut is straight and clean.

  2. Clean and prepare the surface: Ensure that the surfaces where the transition strip will be installed are clean, dry, and free of dust, debris, or any other substances that may interfere with the adhesive bond. Use a mild cleaner and a clean cloth to wipe down the surfaces.

  3. Apply the carpet tape: Cut strips of double-sided carpet tape to fit the length of the transition strip. Peel off the backing from one side of the tape and apply it to the back of the transition strip, aligning it with the edges of the strip. Press firmly to ensure good adhesion.

  4. Position the transition strip: Carefully align the transition strip with the desired location between the two different types of flooring, ensuring that it is level and straight. Press the transition strip firmly onto the floor, applying even pressure along the length of the strip to bond it to the floor.

  5. Clean up: Use a damp cloth to clean up any excess adhesive that may have squeezed out from under the transition strip during installation.
  6. Allow time for bonding: Give the double-sided carpet tape sufficient time to bond the transition strip to the flooring. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for recommended bonding time, which may vary depending on the type and brand of carpet tape used.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific carpet tape you're using and consider other appropriate methods, such as adhesive caulk or screws, for more secure and long-lasting installation of transition strips. If you're unsure about using carpet tape for transition strip installation, it's best to consult a professional or follow established best practices for installing transition strips.
